Gilbert Hewett is a lawyer in HHG Legal Group’s Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution team, advising businesses, individuals and strata bodies on a broad range of disputes across Western Australia.

Gilbert’s practice focuses on resolving commercial disputes involving contracts, property, business relationships and contested estates. He acts in matters before the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the State Administrative Tribunal and other forums where disputes require timely and commercially practical resolution.

He regularly advises on contractual disputes, debt recovery and enforcement, shareholder and business disputes, property and boundary issues, and claims arising from estates and administrative decisions. His work often involves matters where legal risk intersects with ongoing commercial or personal relationships, requiring careful management of both outcome and process.

Gilbert works across all stages of dispute resolution, including early case assessment, pre litigation strategy, negotiation, mediation and court proceedings. He focuses on identifying the real issues in dispute at an early stage, assessing evidentiary strengths and vulnerabilities, and developing a strategy that aligns with the client’s commercial objectives.

His approach is grounded in providing clear, structured advice that enables clients to make informed decisions about risk, cost exposure and likely outcomes. Where appropriate, he seeks to resolve disputes efficiently through negotiation or mediation, while maintaining readiness to progress matters through formal proceedings where required.

Before joining HHG Legal Group, Gilbert served as Associate to Deputy President Judge Vernon at the State Administrative Tribunal. That role involved exposure to merits review, complex statutory frameworks and procedural decision making, and informs his current work in matters involving administrative and regulatory decisions.

Gilbert is known for his attention to detail, disciplined analysis and measured approach to litigation. Clients value his ability to distil complex issues into clear advice and to manage matters in a way that is both commercially realistic and strategically sound.
