James Gatti is an Associate in HHG Legal Group’s criminal law and traffic offences team, advising and representing individuals across a broad range of criminal, traffic, and court-related matters throughout Western Australia.
James assists clients through all stages of the criminal justice process, including police investigations, bail applications, plea negotiations, sentencing matters, traffic and licence matters, restraining order proceedings, and court appearances. He regularly works with clients facing stressful and often life-changing circumstances, providing clear advice and strong advocacy throughout the legal process.
Before joining HHG Legal Group, James worked under one of Perth’s most respected criminal defence lawyers, where he developed a strong and lasting passion for criminal defence and advocacy. He also gained experience in plaintiff insurance litigation, representing individuals in claims against insurance companies. Through these experiences, James developed a genuine commitment to advocating for clients who often feel overwhelmed, disadvantaged, or unheard.
James has appeared before courts across Western Australia and Queensland, including the Magistrates Court, District Court, and Supreme Court. He also works as an academic tutor at Murdoch University, where he has taught subjects including contract law, criminal law, and evidence, and currently teaches within Murdoch’s prelaw programme.
Coming to the law later in life, James brings broad real-world experience to his role, having previously worked in mechanical trades, finance, medical devices, and production industries. This background allows him to connect easily with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and understand the practical realities they face outside the legal system.
