DPP election.

« Back to Glossary Index

Depending on the seriousness of the offence, the police prosecutor may refer your matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The DPP will look at the charges and evidence and will then make a decision about whether they are going to “elect” to deal with the matter. If the DPP makes an “election”, they will take over your matter after the brief of evidence has been served.
