About the program

HHG Legal Group’s Artists in Residence program was established in 2020 to help support Western Australian artists. What began as a short-term initiative has since become an enduring program that reflects our ongoing commitment to the local arts community.

Based in our Perth CBD office, this program provides artists with an opportunity to showcase their work. Offering more than 30 metres of hanging space and regular exposure to clients, staff and visitors.

Since the program began, we have welcomed over 11 exhibitions to our office, showcasing a diverse range of Western Australian artistic practice.

Benefits to artists

As a Resident of HHG Legal Group’s program, we will assist in profiling your exhibition through the following campaigns:

  • Official exhibition page on website (which includes all artwork for sale), promoted through ongoing HHG Social Media and client newsletters
  • Printed exhibition brochures to be in all reception areas.
  • A private event hosted by the firm where artists can invite up to 30 of their guests and the firm will also invite art enthusiasts clients, contacts and staff, to explore the exhibition and attend the event.

How to apply

HHG Legal Group’s Artists in Residence program is open up to all emerging or established, independent WA artists and we welcome those from regional areas also.

Please include:

  1. A current CV for each participant
  2. Hi-res images (1-4MB, min. 300dpi) of your work with detailed information, maximum 15 pages
  3. An outline of your intended residency project (style of visual art, framing, themes)

When to apply

Individual artists can apply for a residency year-round, as this program will be ongoing.

Submitting you proposal

Please submit your proposal via email to art@hhg.com.au. Links to secure dropbox folders will be accepted for oversized artwork folders.

Other important information

Please be aware that artists will be responsible for:

  • The supply of artwork clips and nylon drops for the art rail system;
  • Hanging the artwork themselves or arranging a contractor to do so; and
  • Any repairs to gallery walls, that may occur as a result of the exhibition.

Our Current Resident

We are pleased to present “J to Z”, the current exhibition by our newest Artist in Residence, Jane Zandi. The exhibition showcases works that reflects her approach to painting, observation and lived experience:

“When selecting works for this exhibition, I wanted to present what I truly enjoy painting – subjects that reflect who I am as an artist and what others find relatable in my watercolours.

As a result, this exhibition includes works painted outdoors en plein air. These paintings are shown as they were captured in the moment, responding directly to light, atmosphere, and place. Several studio works on display also began as plein air studies before being developed further.

Painting on Yupo is something I find great fun; its unpredictability often leads to surprising and engaging outcomes, some of which have become exhibition-worthy works.

Life drawing is another essential and enjoyable part of my practice, strengthening my observation and supporting my broader body of work.

Hearing someone say, “I know that beach – I went for a swim there,” is especially rewarding, as it shows the work has connected with their own experience.

Please enjoy my world, my way.

JZ”

Artist Statement

I am known for my loose impressionist approach, working predominantly in watercolour. I’m drawn to the medium for its unpredictability – the way pigment and water interact on the paper, creating moments of magic.

Painting outdoors is an essential part of my practice; being immersed in natural light and atmosphere allows me to capture the immediacy of a place, and these plein air studies often spark new studio works shaped by imagination and memory. Regular life drawing keeps my eye sharp and brings vitality to the figures, animals, and scenes that emerge in my watercolours. I paint landscapes, people, animals, and still life, inspired by travel and by the world around me.

Most of all, I want my paintings to be relatable – works that evoke emotion and offer viewers a moment of connection, reflection, or recognition.

Supporting Western Australians for more than 100 years

The way you represented us, your professionalism, and support was excellent. I was really impressed with the way you spoke to the judge about the accident details and how you turned the case around. We understand both parties were at fault, but without having you in our corner the result would have been a lot different. It was a very stressful situation for us both, and the support you gave us is something we will remember. Thank you so very much.

DAVID

Dianne has been an incredible help through my separation and I really appreciate all the work she has done, her approach to it all and her high level of knowledge.

A.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your help and expertise in helping me out on my situation. You all have been very professional and easy to talk to, putting my mind at rest. I can’t recommend you and your services enough. Thank you HHG.

We are delighted and more than satisfied with the service provided by Aimee at HHG Mandurah.

Ours was a complex estate transaction that I was a little nervous about. I needn’t have worried. Aimee explained the complexities of the process with great clarity with the fee structures being totally transparent and clearly itemised. I will be forever grateful to Aimee and the HHG staff for their professionalism and competence.

We could rest easy knowing we were in safe hands.

Grant.

Thank you so so very much from the bottom of our hearts for all that you and your team have done Aimee.

Can’t say I am not relieved to not see an email from you but I will be in touch soon to sort our wills out. Lesson learned on that part!

Kerrilee.

Thank you so much for all you have done to assist us through this very complex journey, Aimee.

You made this process so much easier for us to navigate, especially with all of the really complicated legal requirements. You genuinely took some pressure off us when life was happening around us.

Candice.
