HHG Legal Group’s Artists in Residence program was established in 2020 to help support Western Australian artists. What began as a short-term initiative has since become an enduring program that reflects our ongoing commitment to the local arts community.
Based in our Perth CBD office, this program provides artists with an opportunity to showcase their work. Offering more than 30 metres of hanging space and regular exposure to clients, staff and visitors.
Since the program began, we have welcomed over 11 exhibitions to our office, showcasing a diverse range of Western Australian artistic practice.
As a Resident of HHG Legal Group’s program, we will assist in profiling your exhibition through the following campaigns:
HHG Legal Group’s Artists in Residence program is open up to all emerging or established, independent WA artists and we welcome those from regional areas also.
Individual artists can apply for a residency year-round, as this program will be ongoing.
Please submit your proposal via email to art@hhg.com.au. Links to secure dropbox folders will be accepted for oversized artwork folders.

We are pleased to present “J to Z”, the current exhibition by our newest Artist in Residence, Jane Zandi. The exhibition showcases works that reflects her approach to painting, observation and lived experience:
“When selecting works for this exhibition, I wanted to present what I truly enjoy painting – subjects that reflect who I am as an artist and what others find relatable in my watercolours.
As a result, this exhibition includes works painted outdoors en plein air. These paintings are shown as they were captured in the moment, responding directly to light, atmosphere, and place. Several studio works on display also began as plein air studies before being developed further.
Painting on Yupo is something I find great fun; its unpredictability often leads to surprising and engaging outcomes, some of which have become exhibition-worthy works.
Life drawing is another essential and enjoyable part of my practice, strengthening my observation and supporting my broader body of work.
Hearing someone say, “I know that beach – I went for a swim there,” is especially rewarding, as it shows the work has connected with their own experience.
Please enjoy my world, my way.
JZ”
I am known for my loose impressionist approach, working predominantly in watercolour. I’m drawn to the medium for its unpredictability – the way pigment and water interact on the paper, creating moments of magic.
Painting outdoors is an essential part of my practice; being immersed in natural light and atmosphere allows me to capture the immediacy of a place, and these plein air studies often spark new studio works shaped by imagination and memory. Regular life drawing keeps my eye sharp and brings vitality to the figures, animals, and scenes that emerge in my watercolours. I paint landscapes, people, animals, and still life, inspired by travel and by the world around me.
Most of all, I want my paintings to be relatable – works that evoke emotion and offer viewers a moment of connection, reflection, or recognition.
