LAST NIGHT WE KICKSTARTED THE YEAR WITH AN HHG GIVING BACK EVENT ATTENDED BY YOUNG PROFESSIONALS AT THE AVIARY TO RAISE FUNDS FOR WILDLIFE VICTORIA.
The evening’s formalities commenced with Employment and Commercial Litigation Lawyer, Gemma Wheeler-Carver, opened the event with a Welcome to Country and a brief description about the history and focus of HHG’s charitable arm, HHG Giving Back.
The event flowed on to our keynote speaker for the night, Shil Shanghavi the Founder of Chatterbox Public Speaking, who shared part of his inspiring and insightful story into his public speaking journey, providing the crowd with some helpful pointers on how we can use speaking to stand out from the crowd. Shil’s two decades of developing intuitive speaking techniques for himself now sees him share his knowledge and work with clients to become confident presenters. By guiding clients to manage their anxieties and discover innate hidden strengths to find their own public speaking style and succeed in their career.
Three takeaways from Shil’s talk whether presenting in team meetings, with clients or networking were:
- WHAT do you want to say?
- WHY do you want to say it?…and
- What’s your SHORT STORY / ELEVATOR PITCH?
The young professionals in attendance were from diverse industries including finance, engineering, accounting, education and legal. This opened up some great conversations and fostered a fruitful networking environment. This was complemented with delicious pizzas and canapes along with a selection of beverages.
Following the devastation caused by the recent bushfires over the summer, leaving millions of wildlife injured and/or displaced HHG Giving Back wanted to assist any way we could. As Celeste Barber’s fundraising efforts are only accessible to NSW charities and victims we chose Wildlife Victoria’s Bushfire Appeal as our cause. All proceeds raised from tickets sales and collected at the event went straight to this great cause and we raised over $500 so thank you to all who attended.
