Now you see it, now you don’t: Disclosure, Asset Protection, and Working with accountants in Family Law Proceedings
Whether you are an accountant, financial planner or business advisory professional your work is to successfully protect and build your clients’ assets and business interests whilst building your personal and firm’s reputation.
Each party in a family law matter is obligated to make full disclosure of all relevant information. Accountants are frequently engaged in family law proceedings as their knowledge in analysing and exposing hidden assets has proven extremely useful. This session aims to discuss the ‘red flags’ that emerge in proceedings indicating assets that a party is hiding. The session will then explore where to locate these hidden assets along with asset protection strategies.
Rather than simply lecturing you about disclosures and hidden assets, our Family Law team’s Dr Steve Cohen (Managing Associate) wish to spend the time advising and discussing how lawyers and accountants can work together in family law proceedings to achieve the best outcome for the client by discussing:
• Asset protection strategies;
• Working with forensic accountants; and
• Locating assets and red-flags.
